Who ever really enjoys going to the dentist? Even when I would go as a child, never having a cavity until I was 23 and receiving the appropriate praise, I was never convinced of any significant benefit. And so, after college when you feel young and healthy financial priorities are rarely related to primary care physicians and dentists, I just took a break from preventative health care.
So, after all these years I was motivated to be responsible and found a local dentist that was highly recommended. I spent the requisite $300+ dollars because x-rays and whatever else are required in order to establish care and walked away totally pissed that I had gone to the dentist at all.
I was there for over 2 hours and was made to feel like the biggest schmuck on the face of the earth for not having gone to the dentists for so many years. I expected this for the first 15 minutes or so, I realize that my decision to avoid the dentist is not something to recommend to others, but these ladies were beyond unreasonable. So, now I have to find another dentist, with whom I hope to have a mutually respectful relationship to fix my cavities.
In the mean time, I am glad to have squeaky clean teeth which of course has inspired me to keep them squeaky clean. (No, bickering and badgering had nothing to do with it) And the more I think about it, the more the idea about mouth germs totally grosses me out. I threw out all of the toothbrushes and toothbrush heads and came home with appealing floss and travel toothbrushes in the event that we're inspired to scrub away while driving in the car and tasty fluoride mouthwash.
Since The Boy was born I have been hypersensitive about having a dirty mouth and bad breath with which to sing and kiss him to sleep. And now that he's old enough to stand at the sink and wash his hands and brush his teeth, it has become one of his favorite things to do. So, The Boy and I brush our teeth quite often. Poor John, I keep threatening to send him to a microbiology class "Then you'll understand what I'm talking about. It's way grosser than you think, honey."
I still remember the time we took you to our dentist. Was that the last time you went?
ReplyDeleteWe always change our toothbrushes monthly, no matter what that indicator says. Also just heard that when you flush the toilet, a fine mist of toilet water ( among other stuff you're flushing) can reach about anywhere in your bathroom. I was so grossed out, and from now on everyone is required to put that toilet seat down before flushing!!! Just thinking about it, gives me the EEbee Cheebeez - yikes ;-)
