Lighthouse Coffee Shop

Every November there is a medical conference that we attend and now make a weekend vacation of. Instead of the usual B&B we stayed with a long time friend and fiancé. They were wonderful hosts and great cooks. We roamed around the conference center, the area shops, local toy stores and a famous playground design company's display yard.

Just down the hill from the conference center is the rocky coast of Rockland ME. A lighthouse is accessible via a long stonewall. The views are breathtaking and so is the wind. When we finally got there, we took a rest. We lay on our backs and watched the seagulls coast in the wind and the clouds go blowing by.

At the end of this endeavor is a boarded up lighthouse and we thought to ourselves, wouldn't it be nice if it were worth the long, windy, freezing cold walk. So, to distract ourselves from the chilling wind we discussed the details of the coffee shop that we would open. Serving tea with milk, honey if you ask for it, no coffee (because it's bad for children), warm cocoa not too hot, peanut butter cookies and the banana bread that Daddy just made. There would be bottles for the babies to drink from and cups made of pottery for the grownups. In the summer we would serve ice cream and lemonade and would put a ladder down off to the side for swimming. We would of course be closed in bad weather as the fog horn would be too loud for your ears.
