A new student

After a whole lot of careful thought. Oliver Finn started his first year of preschool. We are pleased to know that he is a student at a Waldorf School.

There are 12 students and 2 spectacular teachers, see them here in their aprons. Their classroom is in a straw bale building, all the toys are wooden or made of natural fiber (complete with a sand box and dump truck). They start each morning with a walk through the woods, play outside no matter the weather and each are responsible for leaving their shoes at the door and putting on their slippers for school. Oliver Finn's symbol is a red bird, so marks his cubby, his sheep skin blanket to lay on during their daily rest, his own washcloth in the bathroom and his chair. There is a full kitchen, table and chairs in each classroom and every day they make their snack of either bread rolls, apple sauce, soup or porridge.

If you don't know much about Waldorf, here's a little video that shows how special this kind of education truly is. Without pouring over all the details that really are so exciting to us, we wholeheartedly believe that this is great for him.
