Grateful

My words here have been few recently, not for lack of experiences worth sharing, but because of my grappling with how to put it into words. The Boy has changed so much in the past several weeks that I find  myself awestruck, unable to find the right combination of words to describe it and unwilling to spend the time trying because I'm afraid that I might miss my chance to experience it with my own two eyes.

He understands so much and has so much to say. He knows that he is his own person that can make requests and express opinions and that people can have different feelings about the same thing and that's okay. He is responsible, is now almost totally potty trained, asks for a towel to clean up milk spilled on his tray, says thank you when I hand him the tea he asked me to make for him. He likes to brush his teeth and have his hair brushed before bed, asks to put his jacket and hat on before we go outside and will every once in a while blow me a kiss just for the sake of it. And for some reason this change in him, this new responsibility he has for himself and his daily life has made me rather emotional about being the mother of such an amazing soul.

There are so many things about life before parenthood that I thought were moments to appreciate in the solitude of my own company. But the gratitude I have for every moment I get to spend in his company can move a world of mountains.

I had no idea that love this great could even exist - parenthood.
